Abstract
Considering that countries around the world are beginning to take some political measures to increase the proportion of women on board, since globalization of the enterprise has become popular, there is still a paucity of research on the relationship between board gender diversity and corporate internationalization. This paper therefore proposes two hypotheses to discuss the impact of board gender diversity on firm internationalization, and analyze whether firm size can act as a moderating variable on the impact of board diversity on corporate internationalization. A panel data consisting of 271 listed companies from 6 European countries with time span from 2000 to 2020 is used as sample data, combined with fixed effect estimation for panel data analysis. The final results show that board gender diversity has a positive and significant effect on firm internationalization, and firm size positively moderates the effect of gender diversity on firm internationalization. The contribution of this paper is to fill a gap in research on gender board diversity on firm internationalization with a cross-country and a long time period sample, as well as adopting firm size as a moderator, which has never been addressed in the related studies before.
