Abstract

Solutions and tools for improving the know-how to implement successful sustainable urban development policies are continuously being developed. A specific role is set aside for digital platforms. Best practices are the popular method for sharing knowledge. This research focuses on how digital platforms with a focus on sustainable urban development facilitate knowledge transfer processes. A case study approach was used, employing semi-structured interviews. The results show the strength of the connections facilitated by the platforms is a big factor in achieving successful knowledge transfers. Another point of added value is the trust the platforms receive, gained because of the key position in the network, receiving a lot of knowledge but therefore also able to offer a nuanced output, strengthening their position as a key hub. All platforms view best practices as important, but it cannot be stated with certainty the successful knowledge transfers consist of best practice knowledge. This failure to conclude the position of best practice knowledge is mainly explained by a lack of strong definitions and benchmarking processes by the platforms. Nevertheless, there is also a place for the failures and bad practices as there is a different added value in recognizing what should not be done.
