Abstract

The purpose of this thesis was to explore the effect of culture on the female employment rate of domestic firms and foreign multinational enterprises in developing countries. A quantitative analysis using the fractional logit model was used. The data is taken from the latest BEEPS dataset (2018-2020). It is found that only the gender inequality index has a negative and significant effect. There is no support for that foreign multinationals employ more women compared to domestic firms and there is also no significant moderating effect of culture. This thesis suggests that culture does affect the female employment in foreign multinationals and in developing countries foreign ownership does not lead to more female employees.
