Abstract

Employee engagement is recognized as a critical determinant of productivity enhancement, fostering a cohesive workplace culture and driving organizational success. The banking sector, facing high employee turnover rates, places particular emphasis on employee engagement to retain top talent. Existing literature suggests a negative relationship between employee engagement and turnover intention. However, Rabobank's claims of high engagement alongside high turnover intention challenge this theory. This thesis conducts a qualitative deductive case study within Rabobank's investment department to investigate this discrepancy. The research reveals that employees are not engaged with their current positions, contrary to Rabobank's findings, and exhibit high turnover intention. Thus, the theory linking high employee engagement to low turnover intention is confirmed.
