Abstract
This thesis aims to investigate how Russian hip-hop has developed a distinct hybrid
character as a result of American hip-hop's impact. It accomplishes this by analyzing music
videos and lyrics, which emerged from the blending of Russian political and cultural settings
with Western musical aesthetics.
