Abstract

This master's thesis explores relevant issues for decision making to come to the best strategy to realize a sustainable and future-proof service in Nijmegen. The study adopts stakeholder theory as starting point and based on that explores the positions, relationships and strategic preferences of current key stakeholders in this sector. Qualitative research methods -interviews and document analysis-, were applied to collect relevant data. The analysis revealed the complexity in decision making and uncertainty faced by stakeholders. The results of this study suggests that the best strategy should be based on a close cooperation between the municipalities of Nijmegen, Arnhem and intermediate municipalities, focusing on the integration of micromobility with existing public transport systems, involvement of residents in mobility initiatives and continuous monitoring and improvement of strategies. This requires stakeholders to participate in existing partnerships and cooperate with municipalities and educational institutions. Specific recommendations include establishing project groups for regional projects, strengthening the partnership ’Duurzaam Bereikbaar Heijendaal’ and organizing regular resident meetings to involve them into future mobility planning.
