Abstract

This thesis analyses Klara and the Sun and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? on which type of dystopia they depict, i.e. classical or critical, religious aspects and possible cases of divine intervention. Finally, the blurred lines between human and machine will be analysed extensively using Donna Haraway’s Cyborg Theory. The religious aspects and the blurred lines between human and machine are analysed through means of a compare-and-contrast structure. This will help answer why a robot has religion in Klara and the Sun, while the humans have religion in Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?. The results are that both societies have become classical dystopias where religion still plays a role. Furthermore, there is at least one case of divine intervention, and the difference between human and machine is not entirely clear.
