Abstract
Sharing platforms are an alternative to buying goods from business-to-consumer companies. The increasing popularity of these platforms goes hand in hand with the need to use resources more efficiently and to reduce the environmental impact of consumerism, such as resource depletion and pollution. However, many of these platforms fail to develop a consumer and/or provider base. As much of the current research is focused on the consumer perspective of accommodation- and transportations sector, this study focuses on the providers’ perspective of goods sharing platforms. This study conducted a survey using 15 variables and 4 control variables to answer the research question: What factors influence the intention to use a goods sharing platform as a provider? The data from the survey has been analysed using PLS-SEM and yielded the following results: the biggest effect was emotional value, followed by perceived usefulness, social norms and familiarity. Furthermore, females and 35-54 year-olds have more intention to use a goods sharing platform than males and 18-24 year-olds. All the research on sharing platforms and the sharing economy is a valuable asset for a society with the development of these platforms being a step in the right direction to a more sustainable future.
