Abstract
In this research, a quantitative study has been conducted on the influence that car sharing infrastructure might have on the perceived mobility of Dutch retired older adults. This research was conducted to combine two rising trends in the Netherlands. Firstly, the Netherlands is experiencing an ageing population at the moment. Secondly, the concept of car sharing is gaining traction in Dutch cities. It is striking that no research has been conducted on the crossroads of these two trends. Therefore, this research has surveyed retired elderly who are living in the vicinity of car sharing infrastructure on their knowledge and usage of this infrastructure as well as on the effect this infrastructure has on their perceived mobility. Results have been provided that clarify the extent to which older retirees feel they are affected by the availability of a car sharing infrastructure in their neighbourhood. From this research, it can be concluded that car sharing does not contribute to the factors that influence the perceived mobility of retirees. This is mainly because retirees are unaware of the concept of car sharing, or they are unable or unwilling to use car sharing in its current form.
