This research aims to examine the ways in which the cities of Amsterdam and Paris are planning for energy efficiency especially in regard to urban renewal. A variety of municipal vision, planning and policy documents along with academic articles were consulted. In addition, a few interviews with relevant players were conducted. This provided context for the approach undertaken by each city, the first section compares planning systems. Each city and its approach is first studied on its own, later the two cities are compared and their approaches analyzed. The final section offers an evaluation as to whether both city's action strategies are effectively working towards achieving the stated municipal energy efficiency goalsen_US
