The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between employee satisfaction and the percentage of women on the board of directors. In previous literature about gender diversity, the focus has mostly been on the relationship between gender diversity and the financial or innovative performance of an organization. This study aims to broaden the stream of gender diversity literature by investigating what the effect of more women on the board of directors is on the perception of employees. Glassdoor, an employer review site, provided the average employee satisfaction from 2021 for the 240 companies from 16 European countries that are included in this study. The percentage of women on the board of directors is retrieved from a report called Gender Diversity Index of Women on Boards and in Corporate Leadership. Since national culture can also affect the average employee satisfaction, two of Hofstedeā€™s cultural dimensions have been used in this study as possible moderators of the relationship between employee satisfaction and the percentage of women on the board of directors. The two cultural dimensions are Power Distance and Masculinity. I found no significant results for the relationship between employee satisfaction and the percentage of women on the board of directors. In addition, the results did not support the notion that Power Distance or Masculinity moderates the relationship between employee satisfaction and the percentage of women on the board of directors. In further research, scholars should investigate whether the placement of women in other management layers of the organization does impact the employee satisfaction, for example in the middle or lower management.en_US
