Abstract
Currently, any business should be involved in innovation if they want to survive.
There are numerous factors that may influence one’s innovative performance, uncovering
these factors is vital because the ability to stay innovative is crucial. Hence, prior research
already confirmed the positive influence of brokerage on innovative performances. However,
there are other factors that might influence one’s innovative behavior, such as job autonomy.
It gives employees an increased level of control and flexibility, enabling them to enact better
on innovative initiatives. Moreover, job autonomy is hypothesized to be a moderator for the
relationship between brokerage and job autonomy. The research includes two samples, a
company and a random sample, and utilizes both a factor analysis and regression analysis.
After initial analysis, all hypotheses had to be rejected, however, the robustness check
uncovered that job autonomy and brokerage mediation both directly benefit innovative
behavior. Contrary, brokerage separation was found to negatively influence innovative
behavior. For the moderating effect, no statistically significant result could be found. In doing
so, this study contributed to existing literature by uncovering valuable insights on brokerage
and it contributes to managers by showing the potential of job autonomy for the innovation
process.
