Abstract

During the Ukrainian crisis, the American public is confronted with the idea of a second Cold War. The question is if American Cold War perceptions are still present in contemporary American news media. This question will be answered from a social constructivist perspective and by looking articles and debates from FOX News and the New York Times and comparing these contemporary views on Russia with the opinions of Cold War political actors and articles. One year before the Ukrainian crisis will also be included in order to see if the Ukrainian crisis has brought back Cold War perspectives or that these perspectives were already present before this crisis began.
