| dc.description.abstract | This study investigates the influence of linguistic accommodation on job interviews, focusing on convergence and maintenance in communication styles. In a 2x2 design the study manipulated convergence (converging vs. maintaining) and cultural dimensions (masculine vs. feminine) in audio fragments with a male job applicant and male participants for the survey. Contrary to CAT expectations, no significant differences were found between converging and maintaining candidates with regard to likeability, hireability and competence. Moreover, Hofstede’s cultural dimensions did not significantly influence preferences for a certain communication style. The German job applicant was perceived as more likeable than the Dutch job applicant, which might possibly be due to personal preferences rather than cultural preferences. | |
