dc.description.abstract | This study investigates the difference in perception and production in the translations of Dutch secondary school students of English. The research question is, how does the production of an English translation of a Dutch sentence differ from its comprehension by Dutch students of English concerning translation strategies? This is relevant for the Dutch educational system and any improvements in the teaching of English. The topic is studied through an experiment which is conducted with participants from a secondary school. The participants take part in two tests, a translation test and a preference test. The expected findings include participants producing a grammatical translation, but often preferring a communicative translation. The data that is collected in the experiment is analysed in a quantitative manner. The implications of this study are that there are some improvements which can be made to the Dutch teaching ! of Englis h to further improve the quality of English that is produced by Dutch students. | en_US |
