| dc.description.abstract | This thesis is about outside-in city planning as an instrument for city planning. With this method the end-user of the development area is expected to come with its own local initiatives in form of citizen participation. In the past the local government mainly used full scale demolition as instrument area development, clearing large parcels of the old city, to be replaced by skyscrapers. Now there is a demand for a different method. To determine the success of the new method two success indicators are looked at: social cohesion and facilitating government. To research this fieldwork is conducted in Euljiro, an old downtown area designated for redevelopment. In cooperation with students from the Ehwa Womans university a survey was set out to ask the end users of the area about their perception on the indicators. The survey showed that there is social cohesion in the area and this positively influences the willingness to participate and actual participation. It also proved that there is no facilitating government in the area, and there is no significant relation with participation. | en_US |
