| dc.description.abstract | This thesis starts with the notion that there are numerous conflicting accounts about big data in organisation sciences literature. Given those conflicting accounts, it may be hard for anyone attempting to enter big data in organisation science literature to make sense of what everybody writes. After an extensive review of literature about big data in organisation sciences, four major discourses in big data in organisation science literature are found. A neo-functionalist discourse, a critical discourse, a constructivist discourse and a dialogic discourse. These discourses are similar to four discourses about knowledge management research, which were identified by Schultze and Stabell in 2004. A lot of the major inconsistencies or contradictions within big data in organisation science literature can be explained by looking at the assumptions within the publication’s discourse. Using these four discourses as a tool, newcomers and veterans in big data in organisation sciences research have an easier time to understand what lies behind a publication and what assumptions come with that publication. Giving the still growing pile of research about big data, these discourses can help researchers and practitioners to make sense of what is being written. | en_US |
