dc.description.abstract | Almere is a frontrunner of integrating urban agriculture into urban life. They have developed a planning framework to establish a diverse and food-producing urban district in which urban agriculture plays a central role, defined as an agro-city. In the exploration to see how other cities can follow Almere's example, Almere is compared to Nijmegen, which, unlike Almere, has not yet adopted a policy for integrating urban farming into the city. This draws the question how Nijmegen can implement an agro-city policy of its own. This research draws insights from Almere and Arnhem's urban agriculture policies and visions to formulate recommendations for Nijmegen's future urban agriculture policy. Using the social practice theory, this research describes the meanings, competencies, and materials essential to becoming an agro-city, which was explored by conducting policy document analysis, interviews, observations, and literature review. Concluded is that Nijmegen has room for improvement, particularly in education and collaboration with external actors outside the municipal boundaries and neighboring municipalities. Additionally, it is essential to develop a more concrete vision that aligns with Nijmegen's unique context and story. Furthermore, integrating a long-term perspective within this vision is valuable, considering the time-intensive nature of these processes. | |
