dc.description.abstractThis research reviews the performance of an existing transnational flood risk management regime, in which dike ring 48 is the specific case. By reviewing the performance of this regime, a better understanding of which variables add positively or negatively to international collaborations on flood risk management is created. By using regime theory, an analysis of the different interactions between two countries that both benefit from successful flood prevention is provided. The second theory that is discussed is the Multi Layered Safety Strategy (MLS). This strategy divides flood risk management in three layers: Prevention, Spatial Solutions, and Crisis Management. By using different variables that explain and influence the performance, barriers and ways to overcome those barriers will be identified. The most important findings of this research were that the regime is working like it is intended to, but that several parties involved feel that the regime could achieve more if higher goals were set. Language proved to be an important barrier, as well as subtle cultural differences. With both parties believing in the importance of good collaboration, there are chances for improvement in the next period of collaboration.en_US
