Abstract
The Emotion Regulation Questionnaire cannot be used in a Dutch community sample. Therefore a Dutch adaptation of the original English ERQ was developed. The aim of this study was to validate the Dutch adaptation of the ERQ, by performing a factor analysis, measuring internal consistency and testing convergent validity through comparisons with related constructs. The expected 2-factor model fit was confirmed through exploratory factor analysis. The Cronbach’s α was found to be good for the cognitive reappraisal factor and for the expressive suppression factor. Multiple significant correlations were found between cognitive reappraisal and similar constructs, and expressive suppression and similar constructs, partly confirming the convergent pattern.
