dc.description.abstractUrbanization and climate change put pressure on cities and urban areas. These trends increase the need for sustainable urban development which give environmental, societal and economic benefits. Urban green infrastructure and the compact city are strategies of sustainable urban development. Ordinary urban decision making lacks stakeholder engagement. Furthermore, maps used for spatial planning are not dynamic and make stakeholder engagement a challenge. Group model building is a stakeholder engagement method in the field of system dynamics. It brings stakeholders together and creates a model based on consensus. There stakeholders can share their preferences and can see conflicting or reinforcing preferences. Based on these insights, strategies can be implemented and tested in the model. Robustness is tested among the use of plausible scenarios. This is needed because urban infrastructure has a lifespan of decades. Urban green infrastructure and the compact city are tested in a causal loop diagram among preferences of stakeholders and scenarios.
