This thesis focuses on how four different types of Dutch zoos (ARTIS, Safaripark Beekse Bergen, WILDLANDS Adventure Zoo, and Burgers' Zoo) present themselves to the general public through their Facebook pages. Using research tool ATLAS.ti for quantitative analysis and an adapted version of a framework by Pauwels (2012) for qualitative analysis, Facebook posts published over the span of two months were analysed for themes of conservation, education, research, and entertainment. While quantitatively zoos did seem to focus on conservation and education, qualitative research showed that this focus was often superficial. This study therefore concludes that, although there was slight variation, no striking differences were found between the online presences of different types of zoos.en_US
