Abstract

This study examines relations between executive function (EF) and the internalizing spectrum of the Hierarchical Taxonomy of Psychopathology (HiTOP) by means of network analysis, using partial correlation networks. Previous literature supports the association between EF and general psychopathology. In the present study, participants (n=75) completed both the self-report and informant version of the Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function – Adult (Brief-A) to measure of adult executive functioning in their daily environment and the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 Restructured Form (MMPI-2-rf) to measure internalizing symptoms. The general structure of the MMPI-2-rf in the current study largely replicates HiTOP. However, little overlap is found between EF and internalizing symptoms. Reflection on current research methods is needed, as questionnaires are often used and integrated together in clinical practice.
