Abstract
The thesis study examined the impact of language errors in dating profile texts written by American bilingual (Spanish-English) speakers, focusing on how Dutch native readers perceived them. Participants evaluated three online profiles based on comprehensibility, intelligence, attractiveness, trustworthiness, and dating intention, with some knowing the author’s non-nativeness and others not. The results showed that language errors significantly affected perceptions of comprehensibility and intelligence but did not impact views on attractiveness, trustworthiness, or dating intention. In conclusion, profiles with language mistakes were rated less positively in some areas, but knowledge of the author’s non-nativeness did not influence participant evaluations.
