Abstract
This thesis takes a look at the interreligious relations between the Caliphate of Córdoba under 'Abd al-Rahmān III and the Ottonian Empire under Otto I. How cultural exchange thrived between these tenth-century powers despite the notion that Islamic-Christian relations were often hostile. This cultural exchange is made possible through drivers of change, such as the Arabs of Fraxinetum, a band of Muslims in southern France that caused a stir during their short-lived reign. The Arabs of Fraxinetum compelled rulers to convene through diplomats, which encouraged exchange in religion, trade, and architecture.
