Abstract

Organizational identity work is essential for integrating employees and successfully implementing a strategic vision. While the academic exploration of this topic is relatively new, existing research links various organizational aspects to managers' influence on this process. However, besides the fact that managers can directly influence organizational identity work, the specific methods managers use to directly influence organizational identity work remain underexplored. This study aims to fill this gap by investigating how managers in their opinion attempt to directly influence organizational identity work. This study is a case study about ‘Gilde’, where a new strategic vision is implemented. This study investigates how managers within ‘Gilde’ attempt to influence organizational identity work as it helps to successfully implement the strategic vision. The research employs a qualitative exploratory case study approach, using abductive reasoning to analyze fourteen semi-structured interviews with managers at ‘Gilde’. The analysis reveals seven distinct methods that managers believe they use to influence organizational identity work. These methods are categorized into two overarching themes: ‘communicating with employees’ and ‘connecting employees with the organization’. By focusing on these strategies, managers in their opinion attempt to directly influence organizational identity work, facilitating the successful implementation of the strategic vision at ‘Gilde’.
