Abstract

This thesis examines how dystopian and posthuman concerns are reflected in Kazuo Ishiguro’s novels Klara and the Sun and Never Let Me Go while exploring whether these concerns relate to the metamodern structure of feeling. It first discusses previous scholarly research on the core themes in dystopian literature and posthumanism. Additionally, posthumanism is greatly intertwined with dystopian literature since it focuses on the technological advancements that contest the boundaries between humans and technology. Lastly, this thesis examines the new cultural paradigm of metamodernism, showing what characterises metamodern mood, its relevance in a socio-historical context and how it is related to modernism and postmodernism. It then uses these discussions to analyse Ishiguro’s novels.
