Abstract

This paper aims to investigate how R.F. Kuang’s novel Babel adheres to the Dark Academia literary genre, while simultaneously subverting the genre to discuss postcolonial topics. Dark Academia and postcolonialism will be investigated thoroughly, and their theory will be applied to readings of Babel. The objective is to investigate how postcolonialism offers a framework through which Dark Academia’s critiques can be analyzed using Kuang’s novel as an example.
