Abstract
As arti cial intelligence (AI) is starting to be integrated in more and more technologies applicable in a multitude of cases, the human-machine interaction gains in importance. Decision support systems are used to facilitate humans by presenting them with candidate hypotheses or decisions. This leads to problems such as responsibility gaps and ensuring meaningful human control. Falsi cation machines (FM) serve the purpose of increasing human control over decision-making, by assisting the increase of attention involved in making human decisions. The function of FMs is to keep the decision-making individual alert and engaged with the matter at hand. This project aims to improve our understanding of the basic concepts and models involved in the construction and evaluation of FMs. It does so by concisely describing FMs, their problems and the solutions currently available. Identifying such problems, and indicating the kind of potential solutions that are available or need to be investigated, is useful to AI, because it provides incentives for future AI research.
