Abstract

In this study, I investigated the relationship between Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) use and a multi-dimensional construct of employee well-being. In this relationship, team cohesion acted as a possible mediator, while job type acted as a possible moderator. Drawing on the Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) model, GenAI use and team cohesion were identified as job resources that could positively influence social, emotional and cognitive well-being. A cross-sectional online survey was utilised to collect data from 197 respondents in the Netherlands. Furthermore, the data were analysed using SPSS and PROCESS Macro (Model 5). Contrary to my expectations, the results of this study did not support the hypothesised effects, as GenAI showed no significant impact on any of the three dimensions of well-being. Additionally, team cohesion did not mediate the relationship between GenAI and employee well-being, and job type did not moderate this relationship. Taken together, prior literature and the findings of this study suggest that the relationship between GenAI and employee well-being is highly complex and dependent on contextual and implementation factors.
