| dc.description.abstract | In this thesis, the research question “What is the role of education in the process of reintegration of internally displaced persons?” is answered. To answer this question, reintegration is seen as a specific form of socialization, in which education is an important socializing agent. The focus of this thesis is on internally displaced persons in Nigeria. After more than a decade of violence by Boko Haram, Nigeria is home to approximately 2.1 to 3.2 million people that are internally displaced. In order to answer the research question, a qualitative content analysis was conducted. Based on this analysis, this thesis identified the trap of being internally displaced, in which the limited opportunities for making a livelihood that are the result of internal displacement result in limited access to education, which in turn creates limited opportunities for decent employment and livelihood in the future. Education as a socializing agent does have the potential to contribute to reintegrating into a host community, but the trap of internal displacement at present results in circumstances that prevent the potential of education from being fully realised. | en_US |
