This research has aimed to bridge the gap between academic literature on board of directors and academic literature on the influence of voice characteristics. Based on literature it was expected voice pitches of board members have an effect on the financial performance of firms due to having an influence in the social processes boards are involved in. The results of this research however show voice pitch does not have a significant effect on the financial performance of firms. The results show differences between firms and the composition of male and female board members mostly impact financial performance. Future research could replicate this research using another sample than the Dutch Water Authorities. More research is needed to bridge the gap between the two academic fields.en_US
