Abstract
This study aims to attempt to give a more comprehensive explanation of the differences in the choice of agent of delegation (i.e. human or algorithm) by adding a new condition. The comprehensive explanation is of value because the strategic decision quality increases by drawing on the expertise of the right agent. The new condition is added by drawing on the seminal work of attainment discrepancy. Therefore, this research seeks to determine to what extent attainment discrepancy and personal risk attitude affect the agent of delegation for strategic decisions. This research included a two-task experiment with managers to test the hypothesis. The main findings in this study did not statistically support the hypothesized relationships. Nonetheless, this study still contributes to the strategy literature by being the first study to include attainment discrepancy to attempt to give a more comprehensive explanation of the differences in the choice of agent of delegation. Future research could create a step closer to a more comprehensive explanation of the choice of the agent of delegation by, for example, include the role of trustworthiness.
