Abstract
This thesis investigates whether a virtual object, in this case
a virtual salamander that is displayed in the real world via Augmented
Reality technology, is perceived as more present in real space when it
interacts with the environment versus when it does not interact with the
environment. It was hypothesized that the former was the case. This pre-
diction, however, was rejected in a study (N = 16) assessing the feeling of
the virtual salamander being present in real space. Other factors investi-
gated were whether interaction makes an Augmented Reality application
more fun, which was actually the case, and whether participants spend
more time with the application when it was in its interaction mode, which
was refuted.
