Abstract
Co-housing entails many varieties of housing arrangements. Scholars use different terms and sometimes have different definitions of the terms that are used. Therefore, it is essential to elaborate on what is understood when discussing co-housing and its externalities. This thesis includes an extensive discussion on the definitions of co-housing and juxtaposes key-authors in the field co-housing research. In addition, residents of three cases in Amsterdam were interviewed and a rich set of data had been retrieved. Main focus points had been their motivation, the experience of the design and build phase, and the experience of living in their co-housing project. Results show that they are co-building groups, little spaces are shared, there is a high satisfaction and a (unexpected) high sense of community. Finally, a discussion on the various types of co-housing and their characteristics is given. In addition, the position of the researched cases within the field of co-housing literature is elaborated
