Abstract
Scientific evidence is inconclusive about a golden standard to examine peripheral vestibulopathy. Many test combinations are used for different patient groups. This study tried to find evidence for a standard test battery in a large sample of unilateral vestibular adult patients and children with a cochlear implant (CI). Also was assessed whether children acquired diminished vestibular function due to their CI. This was examined in two retrospective experiments of data analyses. The optimal vestibular test battery consisted of the caloric tests, velocity step test, video head impulse test and the dizziness handicap inventory for adult patients. These analyses failed for the pediatric patients, due to the amount of missing data. The data of the pediatric patients indicated no significant vestibular changes after cochlear implantation.
