Abstract
This research examines the effect of organizational environmental performance on employees´ working conditions in China’s textile industry. The environmental performance gives insights into the impact an organization has on its environment. It evaluates an organization’s commitment and effectiveness in reducing emissions, the organization’s capacity to reduce environmental harm due to technological development and its capacity of reducing inputs. Employees’ working conditions give insights into an organization’s effectiveness in providing job satisfaction, a healthy and safe workplace, responsible wages, maintaining diversity, equal opportunities, and development opportunities for its employees. This research quantitatively adopts the Panel-Corrected Standard Error model (PCSE) to correct autocorrelation in the panel data. Previous research does suggest a positive relationship between organizational environmental performance and employees’ working conditions. As the effect of organizational environmental performance on employees’ working conditions goes via the time-dependent macro-economic labour market, this research includes lags of organizational environmental performance to analyze the possibility of different outcomes over time. The findings of this research conclude that changes in organizational environmental performance do positively affect employees’ working conditions, although the effect decreases over time. Policymakers, as well as managers in organizations, can use this causal relationship to improve employees’ working conditions in China’s textile industry.
