Abstract
This research is concerned with the concept of hospitality, which is a concept that involves the engagement between a host and its guest. This research specifically focusses on the community of the island Lesvos in Greece as a hosting community. Many people take refuge on this island, causing numerous non-governmental organizations to be active on Lesvos, in attempt to help these refugees. The relationship between the non-governmental organizations and the community of Lesvos is central in this research. Important to this relationship is the role that international media plays. How the international media has framed the community of Lesvos and non-governmental organizations, and what effects framing has is investigated in this thesis. The investigation has been conducted with methods of qualitative nature, involving interviews and a qualitative content analysis.
