Abstract
This paper contributes to the discussion regarding the philosophical significance of the form of Wittgenstein´s texts by considering them from the perspective of the aphoristic genre. Firstly, it is argued that the aphoristic aspects of Wittgenstein´s texts have commonly been regarded as flaws rather than as positive features, especially by those who have sought to interpret his work in light of the analytic tradition. Secondly, it is shown that Wittgenstein´s writing style can be understood as embedded in the tradition of the philosophical aphorism. Thirdly and lastly, a positive interpretation of the aphoristic features of the Tractatus and the Investigations is offered through an analysis of the ways in which these features contribute to the philosophical goals of these works.
