Abstract:
The aim of this thesis is to uncover to what extent and how large law firms are integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into their firm. The research question is ‘’How do large law firms integrate artificial intelligence into their business strategy?’’
Qualitative, inductive research inspired by Grounded Theory has been conducted. Six Dutch law firms, two legal tech firms specialized in AI software, and one legal tech specialist have been interviewed for this thesis.
The results of this research show that multiple factors affect AI-readiness, thus affecting AI adoption, both negative and positive. Firms furthermore follow a similar digital transformation strategy that also helps dealing with certain barriers. Lastly, few aspects of the business model changed in the law firms. As a theoretical result, a conceptual framework has been created to provide a clear insight on how Dutch large law firms integrate AI software into their strategy.
