| dc.description.abstract | This study investigates the influence of six dimensions of distance on the transfer of tacit knowledge, by using the socialization - extemalization - combination - intemalization (SECI) model by Nonaka & Takeuchi (1995), in the context of the Multinational Corporation. The results reveal that the influence of distance is particularly important in the initial phase of the process. Spatial dispersion mainly influences the transfer process by impeding the ability for the sender and receiver to see each other, which is crucial for the socialization phase of the transfer process. Contextual differentiation impedes the ability for the sender and receiver to understand each other, which is crucial for the extemalization phase to take place. Each dimension of distance has its effect on a particular part of the transfer process and the role of distance is depended on the tacitness of the knowledge. | en_US |
