Abstract
This master's thesis studied the effect of listeners' personality traits on the perceived comprehensibility, competence, likeability, and hireability of Standard-Dutch, Mexican-Dutch, and Spanish-Dutch speakers. The data was collected with the use of a Qualtrics questionnaire. Participants were asked to listen to audio fragments after which they had to evaluate the stimuli with the use of statements on a Likert scale. In the following section, participants were asked to complete a personality traits test (HEXACO-60). The study found significant differences in perceived comprehensibility between all of the speaker groups and a significant difference between the Standard-Dutch speakers and Mexican-Dutch speakers. Moreover, the study found that the personality traits of conscientiousness, extraversion, openness to experiences, and agreeableness were predictor variables of listeners' perceptions. Moreover, age was found to be a significant predictor.
