The evaluation phase of the ‘Games Online for Basic Language learning’ (GOBL) project represented a crucial stage for the improvement of its four web-based mini-games with computer-assisted language learning (CALL) purposes. Such mini-games were tailored to the needs of young and adult low-educated and/or disadvantaged users with no access to pedagogical materials for their communicative proficiency training in a second/foreign language (L2/FL). Subjects in the United Kingdom and South Africa tested the English versions of the GOBL mini-games and a relevant questionnaire was subsequently administered to them. With the present work we explored possible trends in user’ perceptions and attitudes towards (aspects of) GOBL’s final version. We aimed at identifying any differences between 1) the speech-enabled mini-games and the ones devoid of Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) facilities, 2) the experiences of differe! nt users across the two aforementioned countries, and 3) the approaches of users at different proficiency levels as gamers.en_US
