Abstract
Frames on minorities is a widely discussed subject. Articles on refugees use more human interest frames whereas the frames on Muslims seem to change before and after key events. This research analysed a 63 article corpus from the Dutch newspapers the NRC and the Telegraaf before and after the Paris attacks. The aim was to find how Syrian refugees were framed before and after the attacks. The articles only mentioned the word Muslim or Islam in 4.7% of the articles (a). The Telegraaf reported more national news (b) and the human interest frame was, surprisingly, used more by the NRC (c). The responsibility frame increased in both newspapers after the attack (d). Lastly, Syrian immigrants were not linked to Islam (e). Most of the unexpected results seem to be due to the specific subject (refugees) and the difference in treatment of national and abroad news between the two newspapers.
